About Lamayuru – Hemis Trek

A very interesting route beginning at the famous Lamayuru Monastery, you walk up the left traveled Ripchar valley with its small villages, nomadic settlements, and pastures where you see a wide variety of flower and many species of birds. The Lamayuru Hemis trek is an easy to moderate trek which starts from Wanla and ends at Hemis in the Ladakh region. We cross some high passes with excellent views of the Karakoram and the Zanskar Mountain. We then continue on to Markha valley considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Ladakh. This trek also focuses on Monasteries, Monks, Villages etc.

Day 01. Delhi to Leh

In the morning you will arrive at Kushok Bakula Rinpochey airport. This must be one of the most sensational flights in the world on the northern horizon you may be able to pick out k2, the world second highest peak and other Karakoram giants. On your left, you can see Nun and Kun the highest peak in Ladakh at 7100m and 70880m. On your arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The entire day is scheduled for resting and acclimatization to the high altitudes of Ladakh (3500m). Being relaxed is important in order to get a successful trek in Ladakh.

Day 02. Leh sightseeing

In the morning you can explore the Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Tsemo and after lunch you can visit the Royal Palace of Stok (the last palace ever built by the Ladakhi king Tsepal Tundup Namgyal in 1824) and Museum.
Overnight stay in the hotel at Leh.


Day 03. Leh – Lamayuru (124km)(4hrs)

After breakfast, we will drive towards Lamayuru, en route Basgo, Likir, and Alchi. After reaching in Lamayuru, visit Lamayuru Monastery, perched on top of a steep cliff, this Monastery is the oldest in Ladakh.
Stay overnight at the camp.


Day 04. Lamayuru – Wanla (32050m)(3hrs)

In the morning start trekking down along the stream towards the east and then walk up to Prinktis la(3750m). After the pass, you will reach down the river in Shillakung valley and the last 3km to Wanla. On arrival, we will set our camp and later visit Monastery.
Overnight in camp.


Day 05. Wanla – Hinju (3720m/12205ft)(5hrs)

After an early breakfast, you will visit the Wanla Monastery and later trek to Hinju, a village that is made up of a 1km stretch of barley fields. You will be staying overnight at the camp up in an open meadow outside the Hinju village.

Day 06. Hinju – Sumda Chenmo (4430m/14530sft) via Kongski la (4950m/16236ft)(6hrs)

Depart Hinju and ascend to Kongski la pass, which offers enchanting views of the fascinating Stok and Karakoram ranges. The second part of your trek will be a little challenging with the trail being scree covered. Take care to meander carefully and enjoy a trek that is thrilling and exciting. Your destination today will be in Sumda chenmo.

Day 07. Sumda Chenmo – Base of Dung Dung Chan La (5hrs)

Today, get set for varied trail while trekking, after crossing a few rivers, you will reach another warm village called Sumdo Chenmo. Witness life in this quaint village before you set forth on your trail again. Later ascend your way up to the base of the Dung Dung Chan La. As you trek, be mesmerized with some exotic mountain flora like the edelweiss and other rare flowers of Ladakh.

Day 08. Dung Dung Chan La – Chilling (3550m) (5hrs)

Our trek will be head up to the scenic Dung Dung Chan La pass, after spending a while here, you will trek on a simple ascent before you start making your way down. A 5 hrs trek will bring you to Chilling that is at an altitude of 3550m.

Day 09. Chilling – Skiu (3500m)(5-6hrs)

After breakfast starts trekking towards Skiu. The walk is not an easy one; today we will cross the Zanskar River with a cable car along with one luggage as ponies cannot cross the river. Another crew will be waiting for hours on the other side.

Day 10. Skiu – Markha (7-8hrs) (3850m/12464ft)

From here walk on the right bank of Markha viewing its vegetation, after crossing which you pass a barren land too and reached Chaluk. Move a little along the left side of the bank and finally climb towards the Markha village, on the arrival at Markha we will visit the Monastery also.

Day 11. Markha – Thachungtse (5-6hrs)

Post breakfast, start trekking to reach Thacungtse through Hankar village, night halt in the tent.


Day 12. Thachugtse – Nimaling (4-5hrs)

After breakfast, you begin your trek journey to reach Nimaling (4900m). There is a sequence of Mani wall and Chorten on the route. This is counted among the most stunning high valleys in Ladakh and is repeated by Kang yatse peak. (Nimaling peak) 6400m.

Day 13. Nimaling – Shang Sumdo (6-7hrs)(5150m/16892ft)

Start trekking towards Kongmaru la (5100m), after breakfast. The top of the pass offer a view of snowy peak and Karakoram Range, we will trek down to the Martselang valley leading Martselang stream to the Sumdo village.
Overnight stay in the tent.


Day 14. Shangsumdo – Hemis (6hrs)

Our trek today will be from Sumdo village to Hemis. You reach motorable trail pass a series of chortens. Leave Martselang village on the right and follow a gentle rising trail to Hemis.
Overnight stay in camp.


Day 15. Hemis –Leh

Early morning visit the Hemis Monastery, later drive toward Leh, enroute visit Thiksey and Shey Monastery.
Overnight hotel in Leh.


Day 16. Leh – Delhi

Reach the airport for the pleasant flight across the spectacular chain of Himalayas in order to reach Delhi
